Simple Valentine's Day Treats

This Valentine’s Day I wanted to create some really cute treat for my girlfriends and our annual ‘Girl’s Night In: Valentine’s Edition’, but I didn’t want to spend a ton of time baking and getting all technical.  So I bought some cake mix, frosting and red food coloring and just figured it out on the way.

ombre cake

I’ve always wanted to make an ombre cake, so I figured that would be my theme.  When mixing the cake mix I added a few drops of red food coloring to get my different shaded of pink.  Starting with the lightest color first, I poured out a portion of the tinted mix into another bowl.  Then added a few more drops to the rest of the mix and so on.  Here is a great pin that showing how to divide each color.  The cute little candy hearts that I decorated the sides with are from Michael’s and also saw some at Target.

cake is always a good idea

Here is the same cake a different way.  Just frost the tops and stack. I throw in a little love arrow for fun.

With the left over frosting I added more food coloring to make three different shades.  I dipped in store bought donut holes and created little personal donut love arrows.
